Craps rules determine how a typical round of dice shooting happens. Craps rules are easy to learn, though the game has a lot of slang and terminology which might cause issues for beginners. Craps also has a lot of different bets, so a tutorial is needed when learning to play craps.

Craps Dice Throwing Rules

Craps really isn’t complicated when you remember that the entire point is gambling on the sum on a pair of dice. One player rolls the dice, typically trying to get a 7 or 11. If they don’t get this number on the first roll, they establish a “point” number that they have to roll again before rolling a 7. With Craps, the only Player who must place a bet prior to the first roll of the game is the Shooter (or person who wants to roll the dice). To become eligible to become a Shooter, place a bet on the Pass Line or Don't Pass Bar. The dice are passed to Players in a clockwise direction so you might have to wait a while for your turn as a Shooter.

The Sevens to Rolls Ratio. There are 36 combinations that can be made from of a pair of dice and six ways to attain a seven. This means that, with a random roll, the mathematical probability of a seven appearing will be once in every six rolls, which is a 'Sevens to Rolls Ratio (SRR)' of 6. When you’re at the craps tables, it won’t take you long to find someone using this set as it’s another popular set to use after the point has been established. The dice set shows only 6s and 8s on all 4 sides of the dice (Hard 6 & 8 on top & bottom and soft 8 & 6 on the front & back) and sports only 2 sevens if the dice stay on axis.

Before we discuss the rules pertaining to a typical hand, I want to point out a few specific rules. These special rules should be remembered when playing craps. This is especially true for shooters.

Craps Rules for Shooting Dice

• The player must use only one hand when throwing the dice.
• Do not hold the dice under the table. Keep them in the line of sight of dealers and other players.
• The dice must hit the wall on the other side of the table when throwing the dice.
• If one or both dice are thrown off the table, the stickman (or another dealer) must inspect them before using them again.
• Players can decline to be the shooter. If so, the dice go to the next bettor to the player’s left.
